I have had mothers express concern on whether or not they feel they could have an in-home newborn session. They feel their home has to look a certain way or be spotless but that is not the case! In this blog post I will answer any doubts you may have and inform you what it is you need and how to prepare for a newborn session in the comfort of your own home.
When to book your newborn session:
The best time to book is at least a 2 months before baby’s birth to be sure I have availability. If you are booking last minute, it doesn’t hurt to send me and email, I may be able to fit your family in.
How to book:
Once you contact me and I receive your details, I will send over an invoice to book your spot. This will secure your tentative due date in my calendar. Once baby is born, you message me and we coordinate a good time for your in-home session, generally done in the morning. You will receive an invoice for the remainder the day I take the photos. I do also offer payment plans if that works best for you.
What you need in your home:
For me to be able to photograph your baby in your home we need 2 things. First, we need an area near a window, in a room with neutral walls (to photograph baby). The family photos with baby are generally done in the master bedroom or nursery if you have one. We could also do the living room area. You do not need to have your home super clean or decorated a certain way, you have a newborn baby so I totally understand you! We just need 2 spots for photos. 1 near a window for baby and 1 for family photos, very simple!
What you need for baby:
I will bring along everything you need for baby. I bring wraps, bows for baby girls, and even a few outfit options. I bring a posing pillow and blankets as well. If you would like to include anything or want a specific outfit for baby, let me know when I arrive.
What parents need:
Once booked, I will email a style guide online magazine for you to read over and narrow down your look. I always recommend neutral or muted colors in your outfits because they render the most elegant results.
Tips:
If you are able, I recommend you have someone like grandma or baby’s aunt to come over and assist with baby while you and your husband get ready.
More information and tips will be sent to you after you are booked. Feel free to reach out to me with additional questions or concerns.
